How to use Snapchat for marketing
Snapchat users create 3 billion videos per day. 3 billion. PER DAY. Snapchat has 191 million daily active users, which means each of them must be creating around 16 videos. Every…single…day. That’s a supremely large and highly engaged audience. If you aren’t already using Snapchat for business marketing, you probably should be because it is particularly important for marketing to Gen Z and Millennials. 45% of Snapchat users are 18-24 years old, and 71% are under 34.
What is Snapchat?
For those who are unfamiliar with Snapchat, it is a popular messaging app that allows users to send each other chat messages, photos, and videos. They can also be posted to a daily Story that all of a person’s followers can view. When sending a Snap, the user who sent it can modify how long the viewer can see the Snap, and then the Snap disappears. All Snapchat content, like Stories, disappears after 24 hours unless it is saved by the person who sent it.
It’s important not to overdo it when posting on Snapchat. If you post to your Story too many times in one day, users will begin to skip past your posts because your Story becomes too long. Engagement drops by 36% at the fourth Snap. The recommended number of posts is around 3 per day, every 4-5 hours. This is because 80% of followers see posts about 4-5 hours after they’ve been added. So, new posts at that interval prevent users from coming back to your Story and seeing that nothing new has happened.
Snapchat for Business is all about getting creative
The beauty of Snapchat is the many cool features that keep users coming back. You can use these features for marketing your business, including sponsored lenses or Geofilters, Stories with discounts and promo codes, posts that link to your website, or paid Snap Ads. Snapchat is a great platform for behind the scenes content, promoting events, or celebrating milestones and anniversaries. Your company can even repost user-generated content.
Knowing your audience is important for creating valuable content. So, make sure you use Snapchat’s analytics tool, Insights, to monitor your viewer count, age, location, gender, interests, and attention span. Insights can show you unique views, completion rate, fall-off rate, and screenshot count.
Get more followers with quality content
The best Snapchat Stories are authentic and surprising. They should be intriguing, attention-getting, and should tell a story with a climax and an ending. They can be funny, suspenseful, or educational, but should never drag on. Use Snapchat’s modification features, like voice filters or emojis, to make your Story even more fun to watch.
Snapchat doesn’t recommend accounts to follow, so you need to make sure you’re promoting your Snapchat on your other social channels if you want to gain followers. Share your username and Snapcode in as many places as possible. (A Snapcode is a scannable QR code that can be recognized by a phone’s camera and used to follow your Snapchat account.) You can even make it your profile picture on other social accounts.
